mind + body birth

CLASSES

mind+body birth is a series of 4 classes that will teach you how to use self-hypnosis to tap into the cellular wisdom of your body, relax profoundly, release pain, and enjoy your baby's birth. Through experiential sessions, you will learn:

  • How hypnosis works
  • Self-hypnosis
  • How to find your "safe place"
  • Progressive relaxation
  • Anatomy and physiology of labor and birth
  • Fear and worry release
  • Grounding
  • Affirmations for birth
  • How to numb pain through directed anesthesia and other techniques
  • Guided imagery for the best birth you can imagine

Class size is usually limited to 5 gestating people. By creating a confidential, safe space for gestating people to share and to explore their fears with each other, and suggest new ways to understand those feelings, they can reach deeper and deeper hypnotic states. By week four, each person has acquired the tools to give birth with the confidence that their body and baby know how to birth.

During the mind+body birth course, you'll learn basic anatomy and physiology of pregnancy and birth, discuss birth preferences and realistic expectations, learn how to deal with the unexpected, and how to work with your birth team. Simultaneously, through experiential hypnosis, you'll learn to imagine an individualized  "safe place," calming breathing techniques, progressive relaxation, fear release, how to reframe using the right words for you, labor coping methods, visualization, directed anesthesia, and self-hypnosis. In mind + body birth there are no cookie-cutter terms, catch phrases, or one-size-fits-all rainbow inductions.

Hypnosis is a natural state of mind that occurs on a regular basis. If you have ever missed a freeway exit because your conscious thoughts were elsewhere, or become so engrossed in a movie or TV show that you laughed or cried, if you've ever meditated or experienced other relaxation techniques, then you've been in a hypnotic state.

What some people call "hypnotic trance" is just a highly focused state of attention with heightened sensitivity to suggestions. During hypnosis you enter a relaxed state of consciousness and feel safe, calm, aware of everything, and completely in control. In that state, you learn new ways of thinking and behaving, and your subconscious mind effortlessly stores this information for you. You soon discover that it's easy to control pain, overcome fears, improve sleep, reduce stress, gain self-confidence, and relax during childbirth.
